A coming-of-age book and in-depth exploration of family frailty and resilience.
When a young girl discovers her parent’s painful life secrets her sense of self unravels, eliciting a long path to healing, acceptance, and love. Both Sides of Then is a daring take on the power of the female voice, even after it’s been silenced.
Hello, I’m Jennifer
My debut memoir, Both Sides of Then, Finding Love After Abandonment, celebrates the power of the female voice even after it’s been silenced.
My book is a love letter to my mother and a source of absolution for myself.
A truth-seeker by nature, it was when I became a mother that I realized my childhood could influence the kind of mother I would be to my son. The stakes had become higher. I had to find a way to address painful parts of my adolescence to release my son from the legacy of my burdens.
I’m motivated to give space to the beauty of our imperfections. As someone who spent decades thinking I had to be perfect to achieve anything, it took me years to undo that fallacy. If there is one thing I want to accomplish, it’s to help others see the beauty in their unique narratives – mistakes and all – and to stop worrying about getting it exactly right. Just do.
